GM Design Partners with Walt Disney Imagineering to Redesign EPCOT's Test Track

General Motors has opened the doors on the creative process behind the redesign of Test Track presented by General Motors, one of EPCOT's flagship attractions at Walt Disney World. The collaboration paired GM's design studios with Walt Disney Imagineering to rethink the look, feel and narrative of the high-speed pavilion.

A Redesign Rooted in Automotive Design

The new Test Track draws directly from GM Design's everyday workflow. Visitors move through concepting spaces, materials studios and aerodynamic testing areas before climbing into a ride vehicle that mirrors the silhouette of a contemporary electric prototype. The intent, according to the team, was to make the queue and pre-show feel like a working design house rather than a traditional theme-park set.

Highlights of the Reimagined Attraction

The refreshed experience layers ride engineering with interactive exhibits that showcase how vehicles are developed in the real world. Key features include:

  • Concept-sketch galleries displaying future mobility ideas
  • Materials and sustainability showcases highlighting recycled and plant-based components
  • A ride sequence focused on aerodynamics, efficiency and on-road handling
  • Outdoor post-show spaces where guests can examine concept vehicles up close

What the Partnership Signals

For GM, the venue offers a long-running platform to engage consumers around emerging automotive technologies. For Disney, the continued sponsorship pairs a major brand with a pavilion that has anchored Future World since 1999. The redesign positions Test Track as both a theme-park thrill ride and a brand showcase, reflecting how EPCOT's sponsored pavilions have evolved alongside the wider shift toward electrified, software-driven vehicles.

Test Track presented by General Motors remains open to guests at EPCOT, with the redesigned elements now part of the standard visit.
